Award Winning Interior and Exterior Painting

 In Exterior Painting, Interior Painting

We were lucky enough to be chosen to paint the interior and exterior of the Thomas Edison Birthplace museum in Milan, OH. The professional painters on the Textbook Painting team were honored to work on such an historic home and we actually received recognition in a couple of painting magazines as well as local newspapers. The project was completed in conjunction with PPG Paints as part of their Colorful Communities initiative.

Exterior-Progress-Small.jpgThe project started with a group of our painters preping the exterior of the Welcome Center home next to the museum and painting the entire front and the second story on the sides and back. Two weeks later the Textbook Painting team was back at the museum but we were joined by more than 30 volunteers from PPG, mostly coming from their nearby plant in Huron, OH. We helped the volunteers paint the first floor of the exterior on the sides and back while we also painted inside the museum.

The interior of the museum required even more attention to detail as it is a Registered National Historic Landmark. According to the museum’s website the home was constructed in 1841 and 1842. Thomas Edison was born in 1847 in the home and went on to be the prolific inventor and an extremely successful entrepreneur.

Inside the museum we used a custom match color to match the existing trim. We used PPG’s Manor Hall Timeless paint on the interior walls in the colors “Zebra Grass” and “Halo”. The walls were covered in wallpaper, which the museum did not want us to remove because of the risk of damaging the wall surface underneath. Because of this we skim coated the wallpaper seams with drywall compound and used an oil primer to coat the wallpaper and seal out any glue residue.

ChimneySide-Small.jpgOn the exterior of the Welcome Center we again used the PPG Manor Hall line of top-quality paint. This time we used “Farm Fresh” for the siding color “Adobe White” for the trim and “Warm Mahogony” for the front door.

Edison-Plaque-Small.jpgWhile we were busy painting a group of third graders from Milan elementary school were on-site for hands-on science demonstrations. The local K96 country music station was there to broadcast from the event and a handful of local television stations and newspapers were there to cover the event. The Morning Journal, The Sandusky Register, The Toledo Blade, Durability and Design magazine, The Norwalk Reflector all wrote about the painting and donations made by PPG Paints.

After the painting was done and everything was cleaned up and put back together, we were honored to be featured in The Paint Dealer magazine and we won the Top Job for Ohio from American Painting magazine.

Overall, it was an incredible experience not only for our painters but for the entire Textbook Painting team. It was a great honor to be selected for the project and we are glad that they were so happy with the final result.
